New Apprentices Welcomed with Athletic-Style Signing Ceremonies

CarolinaPower recently welcomed 22 new employees who are entering the company’s four-year “earn-while-you-learn” electrical apprenticeship program. In keeping with CarolinaPower tradition, our Columbia and Greenville locations held athletic style “signing ceremonies,” complete with company-branded jerseys.

The eight new apprentices in Columbia received excellent foundational training from area high schools, including Lexington Technology Center (LTC)Lexington Two Innovation Center (L2IC) and Richland School District Two Student Innovation Center (R2i2)

Bradley Michie, CarolinaPower’s Senior Director of Operations, and Cordiro Harrison, Project Manager, led the Columbia signing ceremony. They personally encouraged the new team members to embrace their future as part of the next generation of skilled tradespeople.  After the ceremony, the honorees enjoyed lunch with their new CarolinaPower family.

The 13 Greenville “signees” gained basic electrical construction knowledge through hands-on learning like that offered by the Building Construction Technology program at Donald Career Center, part of Greenville County Schools. Their signing ceremony, led by Matt Johnson, Senior Manager of Operations, and David Steffens, Project Manager, was held at Topgolf. The group then enjoyed an afternoon of team building and friendly competition while getting to some of their Greenville office colleagues.

Summer of 2026 marked the beginning of an exciting journey for all of these individuals, and we look forward to seeing what all they are going to accomplish in the months and years ahead.

About CarolinaPower’s Four-Year Apprenticeship Program

Registered with the S.C. Department of Labor, CarolinaPower’s comprehensive four-year electrical apprenticeship program teaches the skills for both construction and maintenance electricians. The program provides a combination of classroom, laboratory, and live work experiences. Apprentices work full-time during the day and attend classes several evenings per week. Graduates receive nationally recognized credentials from NCCER along with a certificate from their educational institution.

CarolinaPower proudly offers "earn-while-you-learn" electrical construction apprenticeships at all four locations in South Carolina. In Columbia, CarolinaPower’s apprenticeship program is administered by the Columbia Electric Council. In Greenville, apprentices attend classes through the ABC Carolinas Upstate Electrical Apprenticeship program, a partnership among six regional electrical contractors, and classes meet at Greenville Technical College.  The Charleston office’s program is administered by the Charleston Electrical Contractors Association (CECA), with Trident Technical College as education partner.  The North Augusta (S.C.) program is administered by IEC Georgia, a non-profit trade organization serving independent, non-union contractors in that state.
